It began with… United losing to Portsmouth. Damn it!
Then Barnsley followed up their Liverpool heroics by dumping Chelsea out. Yay!
Across the Causeway, Barisan Nasional – political party, not a football team – could only muster a simple majority in parliament. Hooray for now, but the fragile opposition coaliton might crumble, leading the way for a BN return to triumph in four or five years’ time.*
And the Arsenal were held to a draw by lowly Wigan. *grin* Are Arsenal the new Liverpool? Heheh…
Speaking of Liverpool, they are the only one of the top four teams which had a good weekend. It’s ok. It’s just Newcastle that they whacked. Just one more nail in the Geordies’ coffin.
I’d just “‘luv it” if they go down.

Before all these upsets, I went to Labrador Nature Reserve (you do know it is a Nature Reserve, right?) on Saturday afternoon with the Toddycats and took some photos. (Photoset is arranged humans first, then flora, fauna and scenery.) For the first time in quite a while, I’m satisfied with the photos I took. Must build on this.
* P.S. Did you know that the Democratic Action Party – part of the loose opposition alliance in Malaysia – is related to Singapore’s People’s Action Party? The similar name and the logo colours are big hints.

/ Monday, 10 March 2008Oh yah hor!! Wah lau … DAP & PAP
(I would have cheered DAP on as if it was SDP *lol*)
Anyway, I’m over the huge soul-sapping disappointment already. We win some, we lose some. No, make that: we win A LOT, we lose a few.
Hope Barnsley knock Pompey out of the Cup. They certainly don’t deserve it.

/ Tuesday, 11 March 2008The original name was PAP when Devan Nair was MP for Bungsar Constituency. By 1968 UMNO was putting pressure on Singapore Govt for a name-change because UMNO in Singapore was similarly “punished” for using a Malaysian label. The complete de-link occured after Goh Hock Guan and other original PAP Malaysian founders were “delisted” and Lim Kit Sinag took over the leadership.
I have doubts that BN Alternatif will crumble for many reasons. It is Anwar that makes the difference. Also the Bumis are now fully aware that Pro-Bumi policy befitted only the Mahathir allies, including non-Bumis. I dont see Badawi getting worried about being toppled. In fact it is a good excuse now to get rid of Mahathir elements in UMNO and MIC. Before the GE, Badawi could not ask them to step aside because they were too entrenched,. Now with no MP status how could they claim for privilegs? The recent stock market movement affects pro-Mahathic “kawans”.

/ Thursday, 13 March 2008@ MerV I’m pretty much over it too. The other matches had a lot to do with it. =P
@ profkingsfield2004 Thanks for that historial tidbit!
Regarding your analysis, it is an interesting one, as MerV pointed out. Still, they look to be having trouble already with disagreements about posts in the state governments. The claws are out already. The fact is, the vision of three main opposition parties, particularly DAP and PAS, are almost diametrically opposed. Those are chasms which are nearly impossible to bridge, even with Anwar.
@ MerV (again) Heh. I’ve always had political commentary of a superficial sort on my blog. Hardly grounds for registration.
@ Sonic Ooh! Didn’t know you are an Arsenal fan. Hey, it was a compliment! I meant that you guys can now win in Europe but not in England. Ok, backhanded compliment. =P

/ Tuesday, 18 March 2008Thanks! You really have to get in close to see them. And lots of these guys live underneath the rocks, a bit like the leaf litter community. Keep your eyes peeled the next time you’re in one of our nature areas. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you can see.
