Commemorating the Battle of Pasir Panjang

Every year, on the weekend closest to February 13, I help commemorate the Battle of Pasir Panjang with the Toddycats! - volunteers from the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research - by conducting a guided walk of Kent Ridge.

This year, the walk is on Sunday, 10 February. It’s the fourth day of Chinese New Year. The walk begins at 7am from the University Cultural Centre. And to top that off, it will take the whole morning.

We think it will be a low-key affair this year. Nevertheless, I invite you to join us for the walk.

The Pasir Panjang guides will introduce you to the battle that took place on what is now known as Kent Ridge. A mere footnote in most books about the Fall of Singapore, it is a story of tragedy and heroism. As we walk from the University Cultural Centre to Reflections at Bukit Chandu (via NUS and Kent Ridge Park), you will learn about the human and natural heritage of Pasir Panjang.

I assure you that it will be an interesting morning filled with discovery.

Click here for more information about this walk. It’s free, but you will need to register by emailing . Let us know your contact details and how many people are accompanying you.
