Singapore Garden Festival

singaporegardenfestival

Caught a glimpse of the banner promoting the Singapore Garden Festival when 151 went past the Bukit Timah side of Singapore Botanic Gardens today. Then received an email about it just now.

But an indoor garden show? Or does Suntec have a large outdoor exhibition area that I don’t know about?

Oh well. I’ve missed the Melbourne International Flower Show thrice. So, I guess I’ll go have a look when this comes around in December.

Update NParks is running a Memories of the Garden City Photo Competition. Winning entries will be displayed at the Singapore Garden Festival.

Backache Part Deux

spine

It’s back. Almost literally.

An injury I sustained three years ago is bothering me once again. I had severe back pain after a basketball game in November 2003. This time, pain was not preceded by physical strain. I didn’t engage in anything strenuous over the weekend.

But on Monday morning… OUCH!

I had a two-day MC. Today’s Friday, and I’m still in pain. *sigh*

Anyway, the “oh, you poor thing” looks have also been accompanied by an almost incidental “you should lose weight”.

Yes, I know.

After my back gets sorted.

This is a test | Google Docs & Spreadsheets | Google Reader

Testing to see if I can post to my blog using Google Docs & Spreadsheets. The docs component was formerly Writely. Otterman wrote about the collaborative aspect of this text editor some time back.

Update Looks like the test worked. Still, I’m more comfortable with posting via the WordPress web interface. Also, the document published to the blog but didn’t show up as published within GD&S.

Besides merging Writely with Spreadsheets, Google has also revamped their feed reader. I think I might be ready to ditch Bloglines. Google Reader initially takes a bit of getting used to, but it becomes familiar very fast.

For example, unlike Bloglines, it doesn’t treat an edited post as a new post. To compensate, Google Reader automatically shows you the most recent posts. No more using the Bloglines drop box to ’search’ into the past.

Also, there are some features missing e.g. manual folder/post sorting. Then again, with the power of Google’s search bar, manual sorting becomes (almost) irrelevant.

The keyboard shortcuts are really nifty. While this also exists in Bloglines, I still clicked to get what I want. With Google Reader, I’m somehow more inclined to use the shortcuts. Try ‘g’ then ‘u’. (Hint: you can type to search for the feed within the subscription selector.)

Google Reader looks really good for something technically not even in beta. Damn, they are the new Microsoft. Hope they stick to their “Do no evil” ethos.

Gold Coast Paradise* Melbourne

Flickr slideshow from my surprise visit to Gold Coast and Melbourne. I had a lovely time, to say the least. =)

Dr Loo: Can’t thank you enough. Jean, Bryant, E Wei, Geoff: Nice meeting all of you. Stationery Girl™: Wish our holiday could continue.

I didn’t take many photos, but Stationery Girl™ did. Here’s her take on the trip. She’s got a great eye for shots:

Movie World | Wet & Wild | Sea World | Surfer’s Paradise
Gold Coast | Brisbane | Mount Tamborine | Great Ocean Road

*The Virgin Blue head steward on the Gold Coast-Melbourne flight kept on referring to Melbourne - with some irony - as ‘Paradise’. Love their service!
