Majulah Singapura

I first heard an Olivia Ong jazz number playing in a Sembawang outlet. On first listen, I thought: not bad. But I previewed some other songs on her debut album, Girl Meets Bossa Nova, and found it a bit run-of-the-mill. I didn’t buy the album, despite knowing that some people sound a lot better live than on CD. Perhaps, after listening to her rendition of Singapore’s National Anthem, I just might give her albums (she’s got a second one out) another shot.

She begins just a little shakily with an entire stadium listening and watching, mind you, but then steadys (sic) herself and delivers a rendition that has RL gasping “Man, I have goosebumps listening to it!”
