Back to Werner’s Oven

After my first visit, I decided that I had to go again. On Sunday evening, I managed to gather three kakis for dinner at Werner’s Oven.

Fried Camembert Cheese

We shared some fried camembert cheese. As you can see, it came with some sourdough bread, which was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. Lovely.

A wedge of Fried Camembert Cheese

The same could be said of the fried camembert cheese. The diametrical textures were such a delight. That wedge wasn’t enough for me, to be honest. But then all of us had to contend with…

Schlachtplatte for three ravenous individuals

The Schlachtplatte. This platter is meant to be shared among three. (Two’s company, three’s a crowd and yet Germans eat in threes? Hmmm…)

Now, there should be a disclaimer on the menu. It’s a platter for three ravenous people. Four normal people can comfortably finish this. If you’ve got small eaters in the group, maybe five. Don’t let the photo fool you. The platter is gargantuan.

Try saying this in one breath: one pork knuckle, one smoked sausage, one farmers sausage, one wild garlic sausage, two kassler, two nurnbergerle, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and brezel.

That’s how you will feel once you’re done with this. But the Schlachtplatte wasn’t mere quantity.

The sausages were succulent and a myriad of flavours. The mashed potatoes were creamy heaven. Not mushy, not runny, just nice. The pork chops (kassler or nurnbergerle?)… *sigh* Now, those who know me know I’m partial to my mum’s kitchen creations. But these pork chops were really something else. Best I’ve had. Tender, juicy, full of porky goodness.

Werner’s Oven | Bakery & Restaurant is located at 6 Upper East Coast Road in Siglap. If you’re taking public transport, you can board buses 10, 12, 13 and 14. It is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8.30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
