Yawning Bread has kindly given permission to reproduce his astounding photo from Sunday’s Workers’ Party Hougang rally.
Surprised?
You don’t get this in the MSM. They prefer to harp non-issues, of which our venerable PM has told the Opposition to steer clear.
Conservative estimates place the crowd at 10,000.
Mind you, Hougang only has 23,759 eligible voters. Of course, I’m sure not everyone who turned up was from Hougang.
What do I make of this?
- People far and wide are interested in what the Opposition - particularly WP - has to say.
- There were a significant number of people who decided to skip the rallies elsewhere.
- The MSM weren’t able to show a similarly resounding show of support at any of the other rallies. Otherwise, they would probably have been trumpet blasting that too.
Yawning Bread estimates the crowd to be anywhere between 100 (surely he jests) to 120,000 people. If the numbers are closer to his upper estimate, I’d be worried for the men in white. You see, hardcore supporters for other parties probably wouldn’t bother turning up at Hougang on Sunday night. They would better serve their preferred party’s cause by turning up at the respective party’s rally.
So, most of the people who turned up are either hardcore WP supporters or people who are undecided. And this is the group who make or break candidates’ fortunes at the polls. No doubt, some of those who turned up may not vote for WP on 6th May, and some may not even be voting at all. Still, it doesn’t detract from the power of this photo to make each Singaporean who sees it wonder:
What if… ?

Workers’ Party website now comes with an RSS feed. I’m impressed! Nice that they show some signs of understanding the read-write web.
